I am a fairly new rider with just 13,000 km under my helmet. I have been hesitant to ride to work this year, as the temperature has been below freezing every morning, and although I am only on the road for 12 minutes, my commute takes me over the St James Bridge, which tends to get frosty overnight. The bridge goes up, down, and takes a curve all on its short span. Is there anything I can do to ride safely across the bridge, or should I just wait til the weather warms up? What would you do?

I'm up for riding in pretty much anything but when there is the potential for ice on the road it's time to wait in my opinion.

I would have to agree with Chili on this one... no point in taking chances.

I would agree as well. Rush hour is hard enough with solid footing on a bike, the potential of the back end sliding out on you is like playing Russian Roulette. But if you get caught unaware with ice under you, treat it like the first couple of minutes of rain- be soft on your throttle and brake both, no sudden lane changes, etc. you want as little stress on your tires footprints as possible.

Be patient. Eventually we will get above freezing and you'll be able to ride to work as much as you want.
